About

Hello! Thanks for visiting my online portfolio. I’m the Social Work, Honors College, and Virtual Services Librarian at Georgia State University Library in Atlanta. In addition to helping present and future social workers and honors students with their research, my average week  includes staffing our Research Support Desk, teaching courses on information literacy and academic honesty, and maintaining and researching new avenues for our virtual reference services. Prior to accepting this position in 2009, I was a learning commons librarian at Georgia State University for over four years.

I am a tech geek Millennial, but I believe that our physical spaces and collections are still vital to our patrons. My work and research reflect respect for the importance of both human and online services.

Most of my professional service involves the Georgia Library Association. I am the 2012 Chair of the Membership Committee and the 2nd Vice President.  From 2011 until 2012,
I served as Associate Editor and Peer Review Coordinator of the open access, partially peer-reviewed Georgia Library Quarterly, and I helped to found and continue to work with the Atlanta Emerging Librarians Group. I also co-founded and co-host the Carterette Series Webinars (formerly the Georgia Wednesday Webinars). The webinars have reached thousands of viewers throughout the world.

I received my MA in Library Science from the University of South Florida, and I finished my second MA, in English Literature, in May of 2011. My areas of focus are folklore and Victorian literature.

My site title references one of my favorite science fiction books, A Canticle for Leibowitz, by Walter M. Miller.
